Pavaflex – Carbon Locking Properties
Why is Pavaflex wood fibre insulation so good at locking carbon throughout its lifecycle?
• Trees capture CO2 from the atmosphere and store it as carbon.
• Mature trees are harvested, their carbon is captured and stored in buildings and other wood products.
• More trees are planted than felled, and the size of the European forest carbon sink continues to grow.
• Using sustainably sourced wood instead of other materials saves CO2 emissions, both through the carbon captured and stored in the wood product and the avoidance of alternative CO2 intensive materials.
• One of the simplest ways to capture carbon and reduce CO2 in the atmosphere is by increasing the use of wood in construction.

What is PAVAFLEX insulation?

Where can PAVAFLEX be installed?

What thicknesses are available for PAVAFLEX insulation?
PAVAFLEX is available in a wide range of thicknesses, typically from 40 mm up to 240 mm. This flexibility allows designers to achieve required U-values across different build-ups and performance targets. It is stocked in the UK at 50, 80, 100 & 140mm thicknesses
What are the thermal resistance (Rd) values of PAVAFLEX?

What is the thermal conductivity of PAVAFLEX?
PAVAFLEX has a declared thermal conductivity (λd) of 0.038 W/mK in accordance with EN 13171. This offers strong thermal performance for a natural, wood fibre insulation material.
How does PAVAFLEX help with summer overheating?
With a density of approximately 50 kg/m³ and a high specific heat capacity of around 2100 J/kgK, PAVAFLEX provides excellent heat storage. This slows heat transfer through the building fabric, helping to reduce summer overheating and improve indoor comfort.
Is PAVAFLEX breathable and suitable for moisture control?
Yes. PAVAFLEX has a low water vapour diffusion resistance factor of around µ ≈ 2, making it highly vapour permeable. This supports moisture-open constructions and helps reduce the risk of interstitial condensation when used within a correctly designed breathable build-up.
What is the fire performance classification of PAVAFLEX?
PAVAFLEX has a reaction to fire classification of Euroclass E under EN 13501-1, which is typical for wood fibre insulation products used within protected building assemblies.
Does PAVAFLEX provide acoustic insulation?
Yes. The dense wood fibre structure also offers effective sound absorption, helping to reduce airborne noise transmission through walls, floors and roof structures.

How do you cut PAVAFLEX insulation?
PAVAFLEX can be cut easily on site using PAVATEX Insulation Knife, Bahco Insulation Saw or suitable special serrated blades for fibrous insulations. Cutting should be done on a stable surface, allowing a slight oversize cut to ensure a tight friction fit between studs or rafters. Basic PPE such as gloves and eye protection is recommended.
