North Yorkshire Mortar (3:1)

North Yorkshire Mortar is renowned for its traditional composition and its historic association with the region’s architectural heritage.

Pointing, scratch coats (with hair or fibres) and float coats

• High workability
• Vapour permeable
• Capillary active
• Can be used with wet or dry masonry
• Cleaner work, premixed matured putty avoids limes leeching to the surface
• Compression resistant lime mortar
• Joint surfaces can be finished the same day
• Replicates original traditional pointing
• Long shelf life if stored correctly

Lime Mortar Coverage:

• Render/plaster scratch coats @15mm thick = 39kg/m²
• Render/plaster float coats @10mm thick = 26kg/m²
• Re-pointing stonework = Approximately 26kg/m²
• Re-pointing brickwork (assuming 10mm wide x 20mm deep joint) = Approximately 8kg/m² (including 10% waste)
• Brick laying – 1000kg of mortar will lay 900-1000 bricks (no waste allowed)
• Stone bedding – 1000kg of mortar will bed approximately 5 m³ of stone
• Roof parging/torching – Approximately 22kg of lime mortar (dependent on slate & lath).

For a ‘hydraulic set’ in traditional hot lime mortars and plasters, Pozzolans (a powdered additive) may be desired in some circumstances.

Quantity required for gauging into pre-mixed mortars:

• 5% by volume (1/20) – One tonne of mortar requires 12.5kg of Argical-M 1000
• 10% by volume (1/10) – One tonne of mortar requires 25kg of Argical-M 1000
