North Yorkshire Mortar is renowned for its traditional composition and its historic association with the region’s architectural heritage.
Pointing, scratch coats (with hair or fibres) and float coats
- High workability
- Vapour permeable
- Capillary active
- Can be used with wet or dry masonry
- Cleaner work, premixed matured putty avoids limes leeching to the surface
- Compression resistant lime mortar
- Joint surfaces can be finished the same day
- Replicates original traditional pointing
- Long shelf life if stored correctly
Lime Mortar Coverage:
- Render/plaster scratch coats @15mm thick = 39kg/m²
- Render/plaster float coats @10mm thick = 26kg/m²
- Re-pointing stonework = Approximately 26kg/m²
- Re-pointing brickwork (assuming 10mm wide x 20mm deep joint) = Approximately 8kg/m² (including 10% waste)
- Brick laying – 1000kg of mortar will lay 900-1000 bricks (no waste allowed)
- Stone bedding – 1000kg of mortar will bed approximately 5 m³ of stone
- Roof parging/torching – Approximately 22kg of lime mortar (dependent on slate & lath).
For a ‘hydraulic set’ in traditional hot lime mortars and plasters, Pozzolans (a powdered additive) may be desired in some circumstances.
Quantity required for gauging into pre-mixed mortars:
- 5% by volume (1/20) – One tonne of mortar requires 12.5kg of Argical-M 1000
- 10% by volume (1/10) – One tonne of mortar requires 25kg of Argical-M 1000
