Homeowner’s retrofit on their Cottage

A couple undertook this retrofit project on their own home. They used woodfibre boards and Baumit renders to improve the fabric of this historic timber frame building and ended up with stunning results! .

The timber frame external render system used includes Pavaflex insulation between the studs and Isolair boards over the top to create a breathable system. The Lime render can then be applied directly onto the Isolair boards to finish the build up.

The wood fibre insulation used in this build is a sustainable insulation material that really performs! Read our blog post on the many advantages of using wood fibre in your home.

Among the many properties it has, wood fibre gives fantastic thermal performance but also has a great capacity to store and evenly distribute heat, in practice this means that during the hottest days of the year the heat is absorbed into the material and slowly released over the day/night to give a more consistent temperature, rather than huge peaks in the middle of the afternoon.
