FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Partel VARA SEAL Airtight Tape
What is Partel VARA SEAL and what is it used for?
Partel VARA SEAL is a high-performance airtight and wind-tight sealing tape with a moisture-variable Sd value. It is designed to create permanent seals at membrane overlaps, junctions, window and door connections, and other wall or roof details where airtightness is essential.
Where can VARA SEAL be used?
VARA SEAL is suitable for both internal and external applications, including sealing overlaps of vapour control membranes, joints in airtight systems, window and door details, and corners in building envelopes. Its primary purpose is as a plasterable airtightness tape for sealing connection joints in windows, doors and interior construction panels (Pavawall, Isolair, Pavadry).
What are the key technical features of VARA SEAL?
• Can be plastered over for seamless airtight joints.
• Smart moisture-variable carrier adjusts vapour resistance with humidity.
• Strong water-resistant acrylic adhesive for excellent adhesion.
• Sd value range: approx. 0.4 m to 30 m (EN ISO 12572).
• Air tightness: < 0.1 m³/(m²·h) to DIN 4108-11.
• Water resistance class: W1 to EN 13859.
• Temperature range: -40 °C to +80 °C.
What surfaces can VARA SEAL tape adhere to?
VARA SEAL bonds effectively to:
• Interior and exterior membranes
• Concrete, plaster, timber, steel and other substrates
• Wood base panels such as OSB, MDF and plywood
Do I need a primer before applying VARA SEAL?
Yes. For porous or dusty surfaces, it is recommended to prime the substrate with PAVAPRIM before applying tape. This removes dust and improves adhesion for a durable seal.
What temperature should VARA SEAL be installed at?
The tape should be applied at temperatures above -10 °C (with primer) and up to typical ambient conditions. It remains stable in service from -40 °C up to +80 °C.
Can VARA SEAL be exposed to weather?
Yes. When installed correctly as part of a complete airtightness strategy, VARA SEAL’s moisture-variable carrier and weather-resistant acrylic adhesive make it suitable for external sealing applications, including damp conditions.
What are the main benefits of using VARA SEAL?
• Long-lasting airtight seals that resist wind and water penetration
• Moisture-adaptive tape maximising outward drying of building assemblies
• UV and ageing resistance, extending service life
• Plasterable finish for seamless integration into interior finishes
• Passive House performance, enhancing energy efficiency in low-energy projects
How should VARA SEAL be stored?
Store VARA SEAL in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity to maintain adhesive performance until installation.
