The cottage

Follow the homeowners on Instagram who restored their forever home, an 18th-century Georgian farmhouse in North Yorkshire, using some of our products to help complete the beautiful project.

The aim for the homeowners is to restore the house to its former glory, using as many traditional methods as they could. They have spent time researching and learning, and have managed to sympathetically restore every inch and corner of this beautiful house they are lucky to call home.

The Bathrooms

Stripping out the upstairs – wallpaper, plaster, ceilings, architrave, skirting boards, flooring.

This space will be the master bedroom with an en-suite and a family bathroom.

Using lime plaster, straight onto Pavatex insulation boards, by applying a base coat of plaster to about 6mm thickness, then applying the mesh followed by a second coat of plaster to about 4mm thickness.

Followed by a scratch (to cure) with a devil float and a couple of weeks to dry before applying the finish coat.

Rooms

Following the same principle for the bathrooms the walls have been levelled using RK38 lime. Isolair wood fibre insulation boards have then been adhered to the wall using an RK70, which has also been used for the meshed basecoat. Once this has fully cured, a topcoat lime plaster has been applied.

This system is perfect for historic masonry walls that are required to breathe & the materials used will help to regulate the internal climate. The Alkaline properties of the lime used will help to prevent mould from growing resulting in a healthy indoor climate for the occupants.
