A View of the Chilterns
Retrofit Roof & IWI Lime Plastering
This project was a conversion of a listed barn into 4 large dwellings with a picturesque view protected by the green belt. We are delighted that our sustainable insulations and beautiful plaster finishes were selected for this project. The systems used are sympathetic to the buildings fabric, and keeping with the historic setting.
An LDB 0.02 Airtightness Membrane has bee used as a second fit airtightness layer when re-covering the roof while retaining and/or extending the existing between-rafter insulation with PAVAFLEX. A top cover with ISOLAIR has then been applied to improve the thermal performance and eliminate the risk of interstitial condensation. The airtight seal is formed with the PAVATEX LDB 0.02 laid flat, directly on the upper side of the rafters. The longitudinal joints are glued using the integrated two-way self-adhesive strips. Airtight gluing of the transverse joints, the connections and penetrations are done using PAVATEX sealing products such as Pavacoll & Pavafix 60.
IWI Lime
The modernisation of old and historic buildings where changes to the external façade are not permitted can present a real challenge to specifiers and builders. Insulation of the exterior walls can only be carried out internally, but unsuitable insulation can lead to interstitial condensation causing critical problems for the building shell. Moisture damage and biological degradation are common symptoms where the use of conventional internal insulation systems with vapour barriers and non breathing systems are used.
Unity Lime’s internal wall insulation systems combine, woodfibre, cork, lime and other breathable products that protect the existing masonry and helps manage moisture risks commonly associated with IWI.
