BUILD-IT LIVE South West! – 2025

On 13th and 14th of September 2025 Unity Lime exhibited at the Build It Live show in the south west of England. We have been to various Build It exhibitions in the past and jumped at the chance to do another one. Aimed at those people looking to undertake self-build projects, the shows are held at various locations around the UK. This one was at the Westpoint Arena, an excellent venue just outside of Exeter, where we took the opportunity to display our extensive range of breathable insulations and complimentary plasters, renders & airtightness products. Although the event was primarily focused on self builders and new build homes – there were a range of discussions about thatched roofs, listed buildings, timber frames, sips panels, loft insulations and so much more. James and Connor went along from Unity Lime and had a great time speaking to various people about their projects.

Our Ionic protect Sheepwool insulation by Isolena was on display at the event and moths were a hot topic, especially with the landmark ruling of the Notting Hill Mansion earlier this year. Customers were delighted to know that our Sheepwool insulation is not chemically treated and isn’t hiding any plastic content – making it one of the most sustainable insulation materials available with exceptionally low VOCs. Instead the Sheepwool insulation from Isolena undergoes a plasma treatment which changes the molecular structure of the fibre making it no longer a food for Keratin-eating insects such as moths or carpet beetles. Thanks to the ingenuity of Alexander Lehner, this insulation is also available for use in vertical applications thanks to his one of a kind machine engineered specifically for this application. It allows the wood to be layered in a way that when installed correctly is slump resistant and extremely easy to install.

We were also excited to show a potential future addition to our hemp insulation options which may soon sit alongside our flexible hemp and hempcrete blocks. The new Indiboard by Indinature – capable of being plastered onto with lime plasters, it is an exciting product, and being British manufactured it was of great interest to people wanting to support the British economy and keep co2 emissions from transportation to a minimum.

Of course the Wood fibre & Denim insulation products from PAVATEX were prominent on our stand. We were able to showcase a sustainable build up to achieve Passivhaus using only sustainable building materials:

Whenever we show this system, we are always asked about the thermal conductivity of the materials, and although that’s an important question when it comes to insulation – we should really be talking about other benefits provided by these materials that are not provided to anywhere near the same level using conventional materials such as foam insulation. These include:
  • Summertime heat protection
  • Heat storage capacity
  • Moisture buffering potential
  • CO2 storage capacity
  • Phenomenal acoustic performance
  • Zero interstitial condensation risk & fully breathable.
We are looking forward to the next Build it live event in Maidstone Kent on 21st & 22nd of February 2026. Please do come along and visit us to discuss your project and how sustainable insulations can make your dream home even better.
