All Hallows Church, Leeds
Unity Lime worked with the architects who were approached by the church in a bid to help them with their leaking roof. The heavily attended church was experiencing severe water ingress due to faults with the existing tiled roof, which was no longer fit for purpose.
“Not only did the roof leak, but it had very poor thermal performance,” says the architect “We developed a design to remove the existing tiles and replace it with a zinc roof due to the durable qualities and long lifespan of the system.”
Chris continued, “Originally, we considered a mineral wool insulation solution for this project but it was ruled out on the grounds of cost. Also, because the church has an acoustic ceiling with perforated boarding over the main worship space, our other concern was that any glass fibre or mineral wool would potentially drop through onto the congregation below. Because of this, and following consultation with the approved distributor, Unity Lime Products Ltd, we changed the specification to Pavatextil P cotton fiber-based thermo-acoustic insulation.
Denim insulation, which is made from recycled denim fibers and has several benefits over traditional insulation materials:
Environmentally friendly: Denim insulation is made from recycled denim & velvet, so it is a sustainable and eco-friendly option that reduces waste and promotes recycling.
Non-toxic: Denim insulation is free of harmful chemicals and is not treated with any pesticides, making it a non-toxic and safe option for people and pets.
Sound insulation: Denim insulation is a good sound absorber, making it an ideal choice for use in buildings that require soundproofing, such as recording studios or music rooms.
Energy-efficient: Denim insulation has a high R-value, which means it can help to reduce energy costs by keeping buildings warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
Easy to install: Denim insulation is lightweight and easy to handle, which makes it easy to install. It does not require any special equipment or protective gear, unlike other insulation materials.
Fire-resistant: Denim insulation is naturally fire-resistant, which means it is less likely to ignite or spread flames in the event of a fire. This can help to improve the safety of a building and reduce the risk of damage or loss.
Specialist insulation products such as PAVATEXTIL-P denim insulation and PAVAFLEX woodfibre insulation are great for a host of applications outside of general insulation requirements due to to additional properties outlined above.
